Manufacturing Still Matters Greatly in Some States

In July, America’s manufacturing sector grew for the second month in a row, with some experts predicting a revival in the industry.

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2013 -- According to the Institute for Supply Management, a second month of improvement for the manufacturing industry is making headway for an improvement in longer-term trends. However, manufacturing has lagged in the country for many decades, as companies move to other countries to outsource jobs for cheaper production and higher revenue.

There are still states in which manufacturing is still an important part of the economy. For example, in Oregon, more than 38 percent of the state’s 50 billion dollar manufacturing sector came from computer and electronic manufacturing companies. In Louisiana, more than 10 percent of the state’s surplus came from manufacturing companies there.

Between 2009 and 2011, Michigan had the highest growth of manufacturing jobs in the nation, mostly because of the auto industry. According to Chad Moutray,chief economist of the National Association of Manufacturers, the auto sector has been driving the rest of the nation’s manufacturing business.
